The secret agent Harry Tasker (<a href=">Arnold Schwarzenegger) has been happily married with his wife, the legal secretary Helen (<a href=">Jamie Lee Curtis), for many years living in the suburbs and having a teenager daughter, Dana. Helen does not suspect that Harry has a double life, and she believes he is a computer salesman. After a top-secret mission, Harry finds evidences that Helen is having an affair with Simon (<a href=">Bill Paxton) , a used cars salesman that seduced Helen with the glamour and excitement of his fake life, telling her that he is a spy. Harry forces his partner Albert Gibson to use the resources of their agency to follow Simon and Helen; they abduct Helen wearing masks and later they assign a pseudo mission for her. However, a group of terrorists kidnap Helen and Harry and the couple gets involved with a dangerous group that possesses an atomic bomb ready to be exploded in Florida.
This is really amazing movie of all time, Arnold didn&#39;t received the Oscar for this, that I really didn&#39;t liked. I don&#39;t know how Oscars are selected….??? the movie for Oscar was selected once called CHICAGO, I think this movie is the worst of all. If they keep on selecting this kind of movies then they have to close the Oscars in the future. Truelies should have got Oscar for best picture. It shows how Arnold saves her wife and Daughter from the terrorists, instead he traps himself in the game. the performance is fantastic and special effects are awful, I have watched 4 times in the cinema. James Cameron is really hard core director who didn&#39;t received Oscar for this movie.
TRUE LIES is the kind of action film popular in the &#39;90s–big on stunts, thrills, spies, one-liners–you name it. And why not? It was directed by James Cameron who gave the world TITANIC.<br/><br/>This is a pretty ambitious action thriller on its own, never letting up steam all the way through–and featuring Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis at their feistiest–and funniest. JAMIE LEE CURTIS is a &quot;Suzy Housewife&quot; kind of gal, a prim and proper legal secretary bored with her life and what she thinks is her mild-mannered hubby working for a computer company. She gets the surprise of her life when hubby ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER turns out to be a real-life Rambo, a government spy with a sarcastic sidekick (TOM ARNOLD) dispensing with the jokes.<br/><br/>BILL PAXTON is a welcome addition to the cast as a sleazy used car dealer who pretends to be a spy when he&#39;s wooing the gals but is really a wimp in wolf&#39;s clothing. He gets his comeuppance not once, but twice, before the story is over.<br/><br/>The last half-hour or so is the best portion of the film, right after Arnold has been exposed as a spy in the striptease scene where Curtis struts her stuff as an exotic dancer. The action stunts are beyond awesome and look as though both stars are doing every bit of their stunts–which, of course, they weren&#39;t. Artful photography and daring stunts take up most of the last portion of the film.<br/><br/>Summing up: A blast–clever screenplay has lots of laughs and the thrills are practically non-stop. James Cameron really hit his stride with this one.
The director, James Cameron, is a master of action (he worked with Schwarzenegger on "Terminator 2"), and when he's doing his thing, no one does it better.
After a mission in Switzerland, which he sneaked into a mansion during a party, to find evidence that Iranian financer Jamal Khaled (nm0542000) is financing an Islamic terrorist group led known as &quot;The Crimson Jhihad&quot; led by Salim Abu Aziz (nm0539562) aka &quot;The Sand Spider&quot;. After pursuing Aziz, whom escapes. Harry soon learns that his wife Helen (nm0000130), whom is not aware that Harry is an American spy and believes Harry is a computer salesman, is having an affair with a man called Simon (nm0000200/). After discovering Simon is a car salesman, whom is pretending to be a secret agent, so he can manipulate Helen into having sex with him and interrogates Helen and scares Helen and Simon into ending the affair, after catching them together. Harry decides to give Helen an assignment, since Helen is a bored with her life and wants excitement, which he poses as a man suspected of being a arms dealer, which Helen poses as a prosistute, so she can plant a bug in the telephone in his hotel room. But, when Harry and Helen are both abducted by Aziz. Harry is forced to reveal to Helen that he is a secret agent and Harry and Helen escape from the island outside of Miami, where they are being held captive, which is nuked and Harry sets out to rescue his 14-year old daughter Dana, whom has been taken hostage by Aziz in a building in Miami and stop Aziz, whom plots to detonate a nuclear warhead, which will wipe out Miami. Ten scenes were altered, mostly fighting scenes showing double-ear-claps, headbutts and so on. All cuts were waived for the newest releases. The flash from the initial explosion of a nuclear warhead is so intense it can blind a human. When the scientists of the Manhattan Project detonated the 1st atomic bomb in 1945, they all wore dark goggles so they could watch the explosion without being blinded. If you watch footage of that event, you&#39;ll see them all putting on goggles. While the title may seem like a contradictory statement, as in &quot;lies that are true&quot;, it actually refers to the lies being pure or outright lies. Kind of like saying &quot;They&#39;re a true soldier&quot;. The film has several characters that lie to each other - Harry lies to Helen about him being a computer salesman, when he is really a secret agent. Simon the car salesman lies to Helen about him being a secret agent himself, so he can manipulate Helen into having sex with him. Helen lies to Harry about leaving the office to meet with Simon at the Chinese restaurant, etc. Simon (nm0000200) is a smarmy, cowardly, smug used car salesman. He talks himself up to his customers, however he is simply trying to cover his insecurities, although he can probably read people well, hence his being a salesman. Later in the film, he confesses that he has to lie to women to have sex and he isn&#39;t successful most of the time. When he sees Helen at the restaurant, he thought she would be an easy mark; attractive, uptight, dorky. So he thought his secret agent story would work on her, offering her adventure and excitement. His hunch turned out to be correct. But little did either of them know, Helen&#39;s &quot;boring jerk&quot; of a husband is a real secret agent. Yes, it is a remake of a 1991 French film called La Totale! about a secret agent whose wife thinks he&#39;s a telecommunications employee. Arnold Schwarzenegger had seen the film and told James Cameron about it and they decided to do a remake, which became True Lies, thinking it would make a good movie.
